Eyesight is a growing concern amungst gamers. Many studies have shown that extended computer viewing for multiple hours a day can cause loads of damage over time. Multiple hours? Many of us gamers spend 5+ hours a day gaming... lets look at what we can do.
What risks are there?
- An increased chance of developing Glaucoma in old age... especially if it runs in the family
- Shortsightedness... especially if it runs in the family
- Eye discomfort, headaches
- Blearing, tired eyes, inflammation
Tips for Avoiding Eye Stress
- Position the screen at roughly an arm's length away
- Avoid squinting
- Blink often to prevent dryness
- Lower brightness and contrast (but not to an uncomfortable level)
- Angle your monitor to avoid reflections
- Use desklights... there are models developed specifically to reduce eye stress
- Look away from the monitor at distant objects during load times, quest/mission travel, and after deaths
- Keep a clean monitor
- Take frequent, quick breaks
- Talk to your doctor if you experience any problems
